A Bangladeshi youth named Ibrahim (24) was allegedly shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.
The incident took place on Tuesday (December 21) night at the Azmatpur border in Shahbazpur union of the upazila. The deceased was identified as Ibrahim, son of Dukh Ali of Dhulipara village in the area.
Ibrahim’s cousin Shariful Islam said that Ibrahim went to the border area on Tuesday night without informing anyone. In the morning, we learned from Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sources that he may have been killed in BSF firing. The body is in the Indian part of the border.
Citing locals, Shahbazpur Union Parishad Chairman Moha. Tozammel Haque said the incident took place in the area of Azmatpur Border Pillar 162/1-S and 182/2-S around 2.30 pm on Tuesday. However, the body of the deceased has not been brought back to the Bangladesh part of the border.
Munirul Islam, a newly elected member of the 8th ward of Shahbazpur Union, said, “I came to the spot after hearing the news of death.” Talked to BBG. The body will be returned around 2 pm, they said.
In this regard, 59 BGB captain Lt. Colonel Md. Amir Hossain Mollah said, I have become aware of the matter. Details will be revealed after talking to BSF.
Earlier on April 5, police recovered the body of a Bangladeshi youth named Farooq from Bakchar border area of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila. However, the BSF said at the time that they had not shot or tortured anyone at the Bakchar border. Then on 18 August last year, a Bangladeshi shepherd named Sumon Ali was killed in a BSF firing at the Masudpur border in the district.
Besides, on 19 April 2019, BSF shot dead a Bangladeshi youth named Bisharat Ali Bishu (23) at Masudpur border of Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj. On July 11 of the same year, two more Bangladeshis named Saddam Hussein Patal (25) and Royal (26) were killed in a BSF firing at Wahedpur border of the same upazila.
