Awami League nominee Selina Hayat Ivy has won the Narayanganj City Corporation (Nasik) election with a central result. He got 1 lakh 61 thousand 263 votes in 192 centers with the boat symbol. His nearest rival Taimur Alam Khandaker got 92,161 votes. The difference in their votes is 69,102. As a result, Selina Hayat Ivy is going to be the Mayor of Narayanganj City for the third time in a row.

Preliminary information from 192 centers after the counting of votes on Sunday night confirmed the results of the city elections. The presiding officer of the concerned center informed the journalists about the result of the vote.

However, the full results have not yet been announced from the results officially announced by the Returning Officer on behalf of the Election Commission.

Voting for the much-discussed Narayanganj City Corporation election begins at 8 am on Sunday. Leave until four in the afternoon. Voting took place in a peaceful and festive atmosphere throughout the day. No untoward incident was reported anywhere.

The Election Commission announced the schedule of Narayanganj City Election on November 30 last year. There were 147 candidates for councilors in 28 general wards and 34 candidates for councilors in nine reserved wards.

Seven candidates are vying for the mayoral post. Apart from Ivy and Taimur Alam, ABM Sirajul Mamun of Bangladesh Khilafah Majlis (wall clock), Mashum Billah of Bangladesh Islamic Movement (hand fan), Rashed Ferdous of Bangladesh Kalyan Party (hand watch) and Md. Jasim Uddin (banyan tree) and independent mayoral candidate Kamrul Islam (horse).

Selina Hayat Ivy’s father Ali Ahmed Chunka was the president of Narayanganj city Awami League. After the independence of Bangladesh, he was twice elected chairman of Narayanganj municipality. His daughter Ivy was elected mayor in the 2002 municipal elections. Ivy was the Mayor of Narayanganj Municipality from 2003 to 2011.

On 5 May 2011, Narayanganj Municipality, Siddhirganj Municipality and Kadam Rasul Municipality were dissolved and Narayanganj City Corporation was formed. In the first election of Narayanganj City Corporation on 30 October of the same year, Selina Hayat Ivy defeated the Awami League-backed candidate Shamim Osman and won as an independent candidate.

Ivy was nominated by the Awami League in the December 22, 2016 elections. He defeated BNP candidate Sakhawat Hossain Khan in that election and was elected mayor for the second term.
