Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has left Dhaka for Maldives on a six-day state visit. The plane carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 12 noon on Wednesday.

When the plane lands in Male, the capital of Maldives, the country’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs will receive the Prime Minister at the airport. The next day, December 23, at 10:30 am, the President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Salih, will formally welcome the Prime Minister.

There, the Prime Minister will be given a guard of honor. After receiving the Guard of Honor, the Prime Minister will proceed to the Presidential Palace. The Maldivian President will hold a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister at this venue. At the end of the meeting, four MoUs will be signed between the two countries.

These could include two agreements and two memoranda of understanding, including health, education, prisoner exchange, and double taxation. The proposed agreements are: four agreements, including double tax avoidance, prisoner exchange and two memoranda of understanding.

The MoUs are on cooperation between Bangladesh and the Maldives in the development of healthcare and medicine (renewal) and youth and sports in the two countries. Besides, the agreement between Bangladesh and Maldives for the appointment of specialist doctors will be renewed.

During the visit, Bangladesh will present 13 military vehicles to Maldives as a symbol of friendship between the two South Asian countries.

The Prime Minister will be received by the Vice President, Speaker and Chief Justice of the Maldives. The Prime Minister is also expected to address the Maldivian National Assembly during the visit. The Prime Minister will also exchange virtual greetings with expatriate Bangladeshis working in the Maldives.

On the same night, he will attend a state dinner hosted by the President of the Maldives in his honor. On the third day of the visit, the Prime Minister will attend various programs from Friday to Sunday. The Prime Minister is scheduled to return home on the evening of December 26.
